The Panthers competed against more than 7,400 players from 4,212 teams
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, Fla. – The L3Harris Institute for Assured Information FITSEC cybersecurity competition team placed fourth at the national championship at the National Cyber League Tournament in April, marking its seventh consecutive top-10 finish.
In total, the team has competed against more than 7,400 players from 4,212 teams representing more than 700 schools to earn this honor.
During the competition, FITSEC successfully closed out the following categories: Enumeration, Exploitation, Web Applications, Scanning, Reconnaissance, Forensics, Network Traffic Analysis, and Open Source Analysis.
They were one of only seven teams in the country to successfully develop a binary exploit and round out the exploit category. The exploit requires advanced knowledge of both stack and heap primitives and was co-developed by current FITSEC Chairman Marcus Feliciano and former FITSEC Chairman Curtis Goff.
“We are incredibly proud of the countless hours of work, perseverance, and grit that they put into their fields of expertise,” said FITSEC Chief Faculty Advisor and Florida Tech University Professor said Assistant Professor TJ O'Connor, Director of the Cyber Operations Program. “They will join a tradition of Florida Tech students who have demonstrated excellence in the field of cybersecurity. We look forward to how they represent themselves and our university. I am very proud of you.”
The team included Goff, Feliciano, Louie Orsinolo, Joshua Hertzfeld, Tyler Dion, Lillis Fort, and Juyul Lee.
They are L3HIAI Professor and L3HIAI Executive Director Marco Carvalho, L3HIAI Director of Research Operations Rebecca Lee Poe, and the support and support of Florida Institute of Technology, as well as industry partner Steve Wood of Chromerence LLC. and Chris Stricklan of STR.
