The world of sports is rapidly evolving, with new technologies transforming fan experiences and behind-the-scenes operations. From high-speed WiFi that allows fans to share their experiences in real time to data analytics that track player performance, digital innovations are enhancing many parts of the sports world. But this increased reliance on technology and connectivity also creates significant cybersecurity risks.
Major sports organizations are now prime targets for cyber attacks that can disrupt operations, leak sensitive data, and damage reputations and revenue. A single breach could shut down stadium systems, halt online ticket sales, compromise customer data, and trigger ransomware demands. These risks highlight why robust cybersecurity must be a top priority as the sports industry undertakes digital transformation.
Leading the effort is Fortinet, a global cybersecurity leader in partnership with legendary soccer club FC Barcelona, who have selected Fortinet as the official cybersecurity partner for FC Barcelona's ambitious Espai Barça project, which includes transforming Barcelona's iconic Camp Nou stadium into an international innovation hub over the next few years.
“Building on a 20+ year history of cybersecurity innovation, Fortinet is proud to support FC Barcelona's ambitious vision to create an international innovation hub powered by cutting-edge industry-leading technology,” said John Maddison, chief marketing officer at Fortinet. “Our shared goal of making Spotify Camp Nou one of the world's greatest stadiums will be realized by leveraging the Fortinet Security Fabric platform to secure their digital environment.”
Fortinet and FC Barcelona: Cybersecurity Enhances Visitor and User Experience
As part of the multi-year agreement, which runs through 2028, Fortinet will deploy its advanced Security Fabric platform to secure Spotify Camp Nou's digital environment end-to-end, from stadium WiFi and operational technology to data centers, including next-generation firewalls, zero trust access, endpoint security, and centralized management with AI-powered analytics to protect users, devices, applications, and data.
For more than a decade, AI has served as the foundation for Fortinet Security Fabric and FortiGuard Labs threat intelligence and security services, and the company recently announced the implementation of Fortinet Advisor, a generative AI (GenAI) assistant, into its portfolio of more than 40 AI-powered products that help upskill cybersecurity teams.
