KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — People in Knoxville are taking to the roads and skies for spring break trips. Experts say Tennesseans are heading south to Florida and west to national parks for vacation.
“We're also seeing that outdoor-type travel, like national and state parks, is also very popular,” AAA spokeswoman Megan Cooper said. “So while Tennesseans travel to a variety of places, by far beaches and warm-weather destinations remain the most popular.”
According to the AAA survey, 85% of Tennesseans are planning to travel this year, and 45% said they plan to take more vacation than usual.
Those heading to McGhee Tyson Airport should also be prepared for heavy traffic and potentially limited parking.
“By planning ahead, you know where to go and save time getting to the airport,” said Becky Huckabee, an airport spokeswoman. “Parking availability is also limited. Also, in some cases, terminal parking lots are full and parking is not always available.”
Don't forget one important piece of luggage when traveling for spring break this year, they said.
“Be sure to be patient, especially during the summer and spring break travel seasons when there are more travelers,” Huckabee says.
