This week, New York State Governor Kathy Hokle announced a $36.6 million pavement improvement project for the Orange County Thruway (I-87).

Construction is expected to cover 12 miles of Interstate 87. Starting just north of Exit 16 in Woodbury (Harriman – U.S. Route 6 – New York State Route 17) and exit 17 in Newburgh (Newburgh – Scranton – I-84 – New York State Route 17K and 300) line).
Drivers are being told to expect “lane closures,” “changes in traffic,” and “stoppages” on Interstate 87 this weeknight.

AAA also expects 2.8 million New Yorkers to travel over the upcoming holiday weekend, a new record.
The agency predicts that 43.8 million people will travel more than 50 miles over Memorial Day weekend, which is just below the record set in 2005.
