Like other countries in the world, some European countries require special attention when it comes to tourist safety. Thankfully, the U.S. Department of State is constantly monitoring the situation and potential security concerns in countries around the world, and based on recent events, provides updated travel information for Americans who are slowly making their way out of the country. Warnings are issued frequently.
However, navigating these travel advisories and staying informed can be difficult. Therefore, as we did for Caribbean islands earlier this year, we have compiled an updated guide highlighting all active travel advisories (Level 2 and above) issued by the State Department for European countries. . This guide will be updated as more advisories are issued or adjusted.
Each of the travel advisories listed below has varying degrees of severity and indicates how potentially dangerous a country is as assessed by the Department. Level 1 is the lowest level and states “take normal precautions.” Level 2 warns travelers to “take extra precautions”. Instead, Levels 3 and 4 are the highest levels of these warnings and urge travelers to “consider travel” and “do not travel,” respectively.
The following European countries have been excluded from the list as they are under a level 1 warning indicating that travelers should take normal precautions: Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic.
