EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The organization responsible for promoting tourism in the city is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week “El Paso Style.”
To celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, May 19-25, Visit El Paso hosted a series of events aimed at celebrating the importance of visitors and tourism in the border region.
KFOX14/CBS4 caught up with Visit El Paso Executive Director Brooke Underwood outside of Southwest University Park downtown. Her group was handing out free drinks and jamming to mariachi music.
Underwood said of the celebration.
El Paso is [it] Enjoy a great day “El Paso style” with fresh water and mariachi music.
Underwood hopes that by celebrating their community, El Paso residents will attract more tourists.
“People are coming out and asking, 'What are you doing?' and we're saying, 'We're celebrating,'” Underwood said. “Ask your family and friends to come back and see you.”

The celebration continues Thursday with the unveiling of a revamped El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau website that Underwood hopes will be more interactive and engaging for visitors.
The launch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
And on Saturday, the El Paso Tourism Authority will take participants on a tour that showcases the beauty of El Paso's community, and you'll be invited to help spread the word as tourism ambassadors.
“Let's change the perception that this space is full of quality, positive media,” said Underwood.

Celebrations began this week on Monday when El Paso County and the El Paso City Council officially declared this week as National Travel and Tourism Week.
And on Tuesday, the El Paso Tourism Authority hosted a mural tour where participants joined El Paso artist Jesús “Simi” Alvarado to see the murals that add color to the border area.
