Indiana Tech's cyber defense team heads to national tournament.
The Cyber Warriors won their fourth Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Midwest Regional Championship earlier this month, defeating rivals such as DePaul University, according to a news release.
The win not only advances Indiana Tech to the national championship next month in San Antonio, but also means the school will finish the season as one of the top 10 cybersecurity teams in the nation, the release said. Are listed.
Last year's top three teams were Stanford University, Caltech Pomona and DePaul, according to the tournament's website.
Cybersecurity teams will deal with attempted network security breaches and related challenges that will test their problem-solving skills, technical ability and teamwork, according to the release.
Indiana Tech teams have won 17 state championships, including 10 in a row, according to the release. The group last competed in a national tournament in 2018.
Team members include Peter Allison, Garrett Bates, Riley Boroff, Timothy Bukowski, Nick Koch, Hunter Clements, Zach Hampton, Hayden Lafleck, Tristan Liberger, Jeremy McRoberts, Bryce Murphy, and Miles. – Niemann, Martin Quintana, Sam Regelbrugge, and John Rudolph.
They are coached by Matt Hansen, an Indiana Tech graduate who won a championship as a Cyber Warrior during his college days, the release said.
Team member success goes beyond competition. Over the course of five years, each student has secured a job in their career field by the time they graduate, the university said.
Indiana Tech has also established a national reputation as a producer of top cybersecurity talent, according to the release. It added that the university was recently recognized by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense.

Twenty Purdue Fort Wayne students, staff and faculty representing the Black Student Union traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, in February as part of the union's second annual cultural trip. They visited the National Museum of African American Music, the Tennessee State Museum, and Tennessee State University, one of 101 historically black colleges and universities in the country.
