49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa has made a rare appearance in organized team activities this offseason.
The former Defensive Player of the Year typically spends this period training in Florida before returning to Santa Clara for mandatory work.
“I I love having Nick around., I love that he gets a chance to play football with the guys,'' 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “Nick's first year here, after the Super Bowl, after his first offseason, COVID happened. The next year, after the offseason, he tore his ACL. And the year after that, he lost his contract. I think that's right.
“And this is the first year we've had that happen.” [has] It was a completely normal year. And I think there was a year like that, he came to some OTAs. Not everyone came. But he didn't just come to minicamp. So I'm glad he's here the first week and I hope he continues. ”
The 49ers practiced Tuesday without running back Christian McCaffrey and receivers Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk, but quarterback Brock Purdy said Bosa's volunteer presence meant a lot to his teammates. Told.
“I mean, it means something to him, and to show up for the third phase, the on-field practice, that’s pretty special,” Purdy said. “So for all of us to see that, we’re like, ‘Okay. [if] Bossa is taking it seriously, so we should too. ''But regardless of that, getting out on the field and seeing the players look, the offensive line looking, and for me, the movement in the pocket, all those things are huge. I can't get enough repetitions.
“But it means a lot to have him back in the building surrounded by players. That's why we're all excited to get started on the season.”
