The “godfather” of the Finance Corps will be permanently located at the School of Financial Accounting and Auditing at Fort Jackson.
Maj. Paul Morissette, retired Sergeant at Arms Finance Corps and School 3rd Sergeant Major, was inducted into the Corps' Hall of Fame during a ceremony April 26 in the Soldier Support Institute auditorium.
The hall was established to “recognize individuals who have made positive and lasting contributions to the Finance Corps,” said Col. Michelle Williams, corps commander and school principal. “In a world where great achievements often go unrecognized, it is with great pride that we come together to celebrate our inauguration…”
“May your induction into the Treasury Corps Hall of Fame be a lasting tribute to your extraordinary accomplishments and legacy,” Williams told Morissette.
His wife, Renee, gave him a lapel pin to signify his appointment.
Each Hall of Fame member will receive a lapel pin depicting the military uniform of the Treasury Regiment representing their service and year of enlistment.
Robert Speer, a former acting secretary of the Army who served as finance corps commander when Morissette was a senior noncommissioned officer, praised Morissette as a humble leader who cared about the corps.
“He is your legacy,” Speer said at the ceremony. “He's a match for the legacy of the Soldiers. He's a part of the legacy of the Treasurer's Corps.”
Morissette was also the Corps' 10th Honorable Master Sergeant Major.
Today's Financial Services Agency differs markedly from the first Office of the Payroll Commissioner, established on June 16, 1775. It is larger, more sophisticated, and offers high-quality services in a variety of ways.
Morissette began active duty in 1972 and spent more than 30 years in the Finance Corps. The school established the Paul L. Morissette Leadership Award in July 2016 to recognize outstanding enlisted graduates who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, professionalism and selfless service.
“I'm honored that you all took time out of your busy schedules to be here this afternoon,” Morissette said as her new lapel pin sparkled in the light.
After the formal induction ceremony and before his picture was unveiled at the schoolhouse, he expressed his gratitude to the officers and non-commissioned officers with whom he served during his career.
