Deadline reported that DreamWorks Animations has entered into a strategic deal with Story Kitchen, a recently formed media company working on a number of video game film and television projects, to strengthen its lineup of video game IP adaptations. We have entered into a partnership.
There are currently no projects announced or in development as part of this collaboration, but expect to see projects coming soon that combine DreamWorks Animation's expertise in animated world-building with the Story Kitchen's eye for video game adaptations. I am. Story Kitchen has a number of film projects in the works or in the works, including Tomb Raider, Vampire Survivors, Disco Elysium, It Takes Two, Life is Strange, and more recently. This includes the production of the “Sonic the Hedgehog'' movie.
“We are very excited to be working with DreamWorks Animation as our first official film partner since SK's launch in 2022,” Story Kitchen said in a statement shared by Deadline.
This comes as games move into the realm of film and television, especially on the back of recent success stories such as HBO's The Last of Us, Prime Video's Fallout, and of course the Sonic movies. This is the latest news in an ever-increasing situation. In this field, we have Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the Borderlands and Minecraft movies, The Last of Us and the second season of Fallout, and God of War. There's still so much to look forward to in the series, including Mortal Kombat 2.
Most recently, SK revealed that it would be working with New Zealand's Black Salt Games to produce a live-action feature film based on the excellent indie creepy horror fishing game Dredge released last year. The film will primarily focus on the game's ominous atmosphere and Lovecraftian beasts. The film has been described as “Think The Sixth Sense on Water: A down-to-earth cosmic horror that combines HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway.''
