Stellar Blade's director explained that what players describe as input lag during certain moves is a deliberate choice.
In an interview with 4Gamer, Kim Hyun-tae was asked about the game's demo, and the topic of input lag was brought up.
Kim was asked why it seems like it takes a long time between pressing the button and the actual action to execute the perfect parry or dodge.
He explained that this is a design choice to keep the animation smooth, and even if the animation takes a while to play, the skill activates the moment you press the button, so there's no real input lag. Did.
“With Stellar Blade, there is a time lag of about half a second from the moment you press the button until the skill appears on the screen,” he said (translation by Automaton). “This is a time lag that cannot be reduced any further.
“We wanted to make sure that pressing a button didn’t immediately trigger the character’s movement, as we thought it didn’t fit with the game’s animation style.
“So, the skill itself will be activated the moment you press the button, but we made it so that the movement animation follows.”
Kim added that the studio may make changes in the future if feedback indicates that players feel the animation lag makes the game difficult to play.
This issue may have already been partially addressed in the game's day one patch. X official accountfixes “make basic attack input times and block and parry timings more responsive.”
VGC's review of Stellar Blade states that the game offers “both the perfect entry point into the Souls-like genre and a refreshing refinement of the well-worn character action formula.”
“For those who wanted a little more of a challenge from God of War Ragnarok, or a little more focus on the combat from Bayonetta, this sophisticated sci-fi slasher is the perfect tonic ” we wrote.
