san antonio – A group of San Antonio cybersecurity experts are working together to help businesses protect themselves.
“We used to have an IT council, but we knew things were changing. We decided to focus on cybersecurity,” said Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Economic Development said Jeff Fair.
Fair is a member of the Cybersecurity Council, which was founded in 2012.
The group focuses on developing the local cybersecurity industry and provides support to local businesses.
“What we're trying to offer here is the basics of what you need to do. Here are all the places you can go, but we've reviewed this and its quality. I know. So if you're going to spend an hour with the team, go here,” Fair said.

The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce website provides tips on how to protect your network and where to find resources.
“There are also a lot of small businesses in the city that need to start with the basics: know what is on their networks. We're doing a lot of work to help small and medium-sized businesses become more resilient,” Fair said.
The Cybersecurity Council also focuses on developing cybersecurity talent, marketing San Antonio's cybersecurity, and advocating for the industry.
In the private sector, there are about 100 cybersecurity companies operating in the San Antonio and New Braunfels areas, said Greater SATX, a public-private nonprofit dedicated to growing quality, high-wage jobs in the San Antonio area.
The San Antonio area has more than 10,000 certified cybersecurity professionals, making it the largest concentration of certified cybersecurity professionals in the United States outside of the nation's capital, the organization said.
