“It was very exciting,” Jean-An said. “Every time I talk to people back home in Canada, they're jealous,” Harry said. “They wonder how on earth they did this.”
Orders arrive from volunteer headquarters every day. Jean-Anne helped check in the players, and Harry was sent to guard the grounds.
“They came to register, so I gave them a yard book or a meter book, and a lot of them took the yard book,” Jean-An said.
“I'm in charge of the zone,” Harry said. “I’m there to make sure the course is safe while people are playing.”
The couple said they are grateful for the experience and opportunity to watch golf and enjoy the beach.
“It's just fun,” Jean-Anne said.
“Just running away and leaving that computer behind for a few days would be a bonus,” Harry said. “We're here for the holidays and we just want to enjoy what Myrtle Beach and South Carolina has to offer us.”
About 4,000 people signed up to volunteer, but the tournament only hosted about 1,500.
