Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, sent a letter Tuesday to the editors of three major scientific journals, warning that their publications and the federal government asked to testify regarding their relationship.
Wenstrup wrote to the editors-in-chief of the journals The Lancet, Science, and Nature, requesting them to testify at the April 16 hearing. The hearing was titled “Academic Errors: An Examination of the Relationship Between Scientific Journals, Government, and Peers.” review. “
In his letter, Wenstrup said the hearing will examine “whether these journals gave the federal government inappropriate access to their scientific review and publication processes.”
The journals have contacted top White House health officials, including Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins, under Freedom of Information Act requests, Wenstrup wrote. He did not mention any specific reports or studies in his letter to the editor-in-chief.
A search for research articles containing the term “COVID-19” on the websites of three scientific journals yields approximately 19,000 results.
The Hill has contacted The Lancet and Science and Nature for comment.
The selection subcommittee continues to include officials and experts who have worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, Fauci held a two-day closed-door meeting with the subcommittee.
