It appears the release date for “College Football 25” is known to people behind the scenes.
The first college football game from EA Sports in 11 years will hit shelves this summer, and as I previously reported, the release window is some point in July.
Kirk Herbstreit backed up that time window in a recent interview with Pat McAfee. Well, it appears we can now drill down the day.
“College Football 25” will drop in the back half of July.
Just as a Playstation rep told me about the July release – which, again, Herbstreit confirmed – I went back to the well to figure out what the gaming giant might know in early April.
A rep told me the release date is July 19th, and the only thing that could change the release date at this point would be a delay. The rep noted that it’s highly unlikely any delay would occur.
To make matters even more interesting, I went and looked at the game’s official Wikipedia page, and it turns out the date had been there for anyone willing to look.
I kid you not, it states July 19 in broad daylight and nobody even seemed to notice.
Now, what's interesting here is that video games usually aren't sold on Fridays (July 19th is a Friday). Generally, games are released on Tuesdays.
When I mentioned this to a PlayStation representative, they simply said that this is not the case at this time.
It's also worth noting that game/production/streaming companies and search engines are often fed information far before the general public or reporters.
A great example of this is a few years ago when Google searches auto-populated the return date of “The Last Ship” even though there was no report on when “The Last Ship” would return.
Exactly the same thing happened with “Ozark”. There were no reports regarding the season 3 premiere date, but that information arrived in Google's autoresponder when the episode loaded on the backend.
Of course, things change all the time, but there seem to be multiple reasons why July 19 should be around on your calendar. Hope it's true and please share your thoughts with me. David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
