LOCK HAVEN – As the 2024 season heads down home, the Central Mountain track and field team hosted Shikellamy during a game Tuesday afternoon.
It was a tough day for the Wildcats, who lost to the veteran-laden Braves 104.5-45.5 on the boys' side and 85-65 on the girls' side.
However, both boys and girls showed great individual performances.
“I thought today was one of their better performances. They gave us a lot of PR.” Central Mountain coach Ellie Sikauskas said. “The children did a great job.”
The girls started in second and third place in the 100-meter dash. Gracelyn Stacey ran a time of 13.06, with her teammate Sarah Hall finishing closely behind in 13.26.
Central Mountain came out on top in the 3,200-meter run with Grace Keohane finishing in a commanding time of 12 minutes, 44.89 seconds.
The Wildcats finished 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles. Jocelyn Wiseman clocked a 16.55, followed closely by teammate Hall at 16.82.
Wiseman also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.84 seconds.
The Lady Wildcats shined in the field events.
The Wildcats took top honors in the high jump with Abigail Zimmerman taking first place with a time of 4-08.00.
Teammate Lillian Downing also finished 4-08.00, but had to finish second.
Zimmerman also did well in the pole vault, finishing with a best jump of 8-06.00.
Lily Hendricks took first place in the long jump with a jump of 18-09.00, and in the triple jump with a tournament-best jump of 38-07.00, demonstrating a force to be reckoned with.
Stacey was right behind Hendricks in the long jump, taking second place with a score of 15.00.00.
Central Mountain also did well in shots on goal.
Sophia Dressler and Jaslyn Anderson went 1-2 with throws of 28-01.00 and 27-07.00, respectively.
Dressler also took first place in the discus with a score of 66-07.50.
She beat teammate Elise Cygan, who finished second by two inches.
In the javelin throw, Central Mountain finished second and third, earning the team much-needed points. Dressler again finished in the top three with a pitching mark of 91-07 for second place, while Giuliana Onuskanic took third place with a pitching mark of 90-08.
On the boys side, Jordan Donahey got the Wildcats off to a strong start, taking first place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.25.
Sam Wibble moved to the top of the 400 with a finishing time of 52.72 seconds.
In the 1600 race, Damian Winner placed third with a time of 5:00.32.
The winner finished in first place in the 3200 meters with a top time of 10:51.97.
Billy Newman took first place in the high jump and long jump with launches of 5-10.00 seconds and 20-03.00 seconds.
Logan Dawes excelled in the shot put and discus, topping both charts.
In the discus, Newman finished with a distance of 130-09. He won the shot put with a high score of 51-07.50.
Cooper Bottorff took third place in the discus with a score of 124-00, confirming the Wildcats' championship of the night.
