Plans for the release of Civilization VII have seemingly leaked ahead of its announcement at Friday's Summer Game Fest showcase.
According to Resetera and Reddit users, a promotional banner for the game briefly appeared on publisher 2K's website today, but has since been removed.
2K said last month that it plans to unveil the next iteration of its “biggest and most beloved franchise” at its Summer Game Fest on June 7.
Firaxis officially announced in February 2023 that it was developing the next mainline game in Sid Meier's Civilization series.
Ed Beach, franchise lead designer on Civilization VI, will continue in his role as creative director on the new game.
The next installment in the turn-based strategy series was announced alongside the announcement of a major restructuring at 2K Games studios, with XCOM director Jake Solomon and studio head Steve Martin leaving the company.
Martin was replaced by Heather Hazen, former chief operating officer of Firaxis.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the studio's illustrious tradition, starting with the announcement that Firaxis is developing the next installment in the legendary Civilization series,” she said at the time.
“I'm fortunate to be working with some of the best developers in the industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization series to exciting new heights for millions of players around the world.”
According to 2K, the Civilization series has sold more than 65 million copies since its launch in 1991. Civilization VI was released in 2016 and is the series' best-selling title of all time.
