The City of Aspen has been formally recognized for three separate financial disclosures related to the City's 2022 financial planning and reporting, according to a city press release.
Each year, the city's finance department participates in an annual review process conducted by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) to report on what are called “annual budget documents” and “audited financial documents.”
For nearly a decade, the city has been recognized for its annual budget and audited financial statements. This year, the city announced that its finance department had produced its third financial document, called the “Popular Annual Financial Report,” which received an additional award from GFOA.
“I am proud of the team and all members of the finance department contributing to these documents,” City Finance Director Pete Strecker said in a news release. “These are the backbone of operational decisions when managing an organization of over 20 different departments.
“They provide the insight the public expects and deserves into how public funds are utilized to sustain the Aspen community, and they provide the city's overall “We will communicate our financial health to stakeholders,” he added.
These awards demonstrate how city finance departments are successful in disclosing financial information. The city has already received the Budget Excellence Award in its 2023 annual budget presentation and is on track to repeat this milestone.
