Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – High school students got a taste of adult life and the challenges that come with it.
At the Chippewa Falls YMCA, Royal Credit Union hosted a test drive simulation for Chippewa Falls High School. There, students selected a career and explored 22 stations dealing with what it would cost as an adult.
These tasks include budgeting for things like cars, housing, utilities, clothing, and personal care. Several 11th graders at Chippewa Falls High School told News 18 some of the costs really surprised them.
“Food,” Emma Schuelke said. “If you want quality food, it costs about $2,000 a month. That was shocking to me.”
“We're talking about toiletries and bathroom equipment,” Colton Petzka said. “It took up a lot more of my budget than I expected. I thought it would only be $50, but I also have a wife and kids, so I ended up paying almost $200.”
The two students also learned about interest rates. In the future, you want to pay it off as soon as possible to avoid interest accumulating.
Eau Claire high school students will also take the simulation on April 18th.
