Background: Government Canada Supporting growth and innovation British Columbia Quantum Technology Industry
Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister of Pacific Economic Development, Canada (Pacifican) $11 million Regional Quantum Initiative (RQI) funding will be awarded to three innovative British Columbia-based organizations.
Projects announced today include:
Regional Quantum Initiative
1QB Information Technologies (1QBthat)
$3,488,806
The funding will support the development and commercialization of 1QBit's Topological Quantum Architecture Design (TopQAD™️), an innovative software suite that will benefit the quantum industry by reducing uncertainty in fault-tolerant quantum computing development and shortening the time it takes to develop, test, and commercialize quantum-related technologies.
Simon Fraser University
$4.3 million
The funding will add new quantum manufacturing infrastructure, enabling industry users to develop new products, reduce supply chain risk by manufacturing locally, and train talented people to use the tools to produce commercializable outcomes.
University of British Columbia
$3,247,713
The funding will strengthen quantum technology commercialization capabilities at the Stewart Brasson Quantum Materials Institute (SBQMI). The funding will expand the institute's manufacturing and computing capabilities, launch a new quantum foundry, and develop a business expansion strategy for small and medium-sized enterprises. The project will support companies that can use the institute to facilitate rapid prototyping of products, shortening time to market and increasing the likelihood of successful commercialization.
