Dartmouth, New South Wales, March 25, 2024 /CNW/ -Government Canada is committed to addressing problematic vessels that impact the marine environment and coastal communities. The Canadian Coast Guard proceeded to contain and remove recoverable contaminants while beginning work towards a permanent solution.
A Canadian Coast Guard team remained on scene throughout the vessel removal operation, which lasted just over three months, ensuring overall command of the response. By the end of the work, more than 850,000 liters of contaminated water had been removed from the ship.
Protecting the marine environment is a top priority and all problematic vessels reported to us will be taken seriously. Members of the public who discover marine pollution or hazards are encouraged to report it to the Canadian Coast Guard.
