BETHEL — Amy Hanscom, Bethel's longtime finance director, is stepping down after 19 years of service to the Town of Bethel. Her last day will be April 3, 2024.
He has served as Bethel's Deputy Town Clerk since 2005 and became Bethel's Treasurer in October 2017.
“This was a very difficult decision for me to make, but the opportunities that the Maine Rural Water Association provides me will allow me to continue to grow as an individual and employee,” said Hanscom. states.
“I'm going to miss so much…The work itself is always a challenge, but in a good way. It's different every day and it's like there are a lot of puzzle pieces that need to be put together.
“My co-workers have supported me like family over the years. They are all truly amazing and the town of Bethel is lucky to have them all. You'll feel it. Christy Aguilar, Jessica Glover, Scott Sumner, Mike Jodley, and of course David Hanscom. [Amy’s husband] Always goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the job gets done. I see this firsthand every day,” she said.
In his new role at the Maine Rural Water Association, he will be a finance specialist.
Hanscom's Ford Explorer, with the license plate “Resqmom,” is the first in the parking lot behind Town Hall most mornings.
When asked if she would stay on as Bethel Rescue's assistant director, Hanscom said, “Yes, the town can't just kick me out.” I have worked at Bethel Rescue since 1997. I have no plans to quit my job at this point. I love serving the community. Many people would argue that this is a job and not a service to the community, but that is simply not the case. When you work for a local government, you are contributing to the local community. ”
Aguilar said of Hanscom, “I'm going to miss her so much!”
Former Mayor Natalie Andrews also wished Amy well, saying: “Having worked closely with Amy, I have witnessed her extraordinary skills and unwavering dedication.”
