ST. LOUIS — For the first time in recent history, downtown St. Louis hosted three major sporting events in one day.
On Saturday, 5 On Your Side caught up with Cardinals, BattleHawks and City SC fans.
The Cardinals opened their sports schedule on April 6 with a victory over the Miami Marlins. It was the start of a busy day for fans.
“No one else has plans for us today,” said St. Louis resident Sloane Simmons. “With so many games happening downtown, I was wondering how many people I would run into.”
“Everyone's downtown today,” added Simmons' friend Molly McGlynn, who was visiting from Seattle.
“I also wondered how long we were going to be here,” Simmons said. “I don't know. It might take all day until tomorrow.”
If you're a self-proclaimed “Ball Hawk One” and you've been driving tailgating for nearly eight hours before the BattleHawks' much-anticipated home opener, it's definitely all day.

“Defensive players, they're ballhawks,” said Ballhawkwan, wearing shoulder pads, a Viking helmet and blue face paint. “I'm a big fan of defense, so I call it 'Ball Hawk One.' I took inspiration from WWE's Hawk and Animal, and that's where the shoulder pads come in.”
He was gearing up for the unified UFL league along with Toby Brown, a BattleHawks fan known as “The Beard.”
“St. Louis prides itself when it comes to sports. I don't know of any other city that does it better than St. Louis,” Brown said.
Whether it was watching the Cardinals, BattleHawks or City SC, downtown was the place for St. Louis sports fans to watch all of these teams on Saturdays.
“We're both from St. Louis,” said CITY SC season ticket holders Mary and Gregory Cross. “We’re both big supporters.”
“I grew up watching the Cardinals all my life,” Mary said. “It's fun. It's great to see so many teams come together in one weekend.”
Cross and his friends arrived at the soccer field four hours before kickoff for the giveaway.
“What the team is creating is a very specific brand of toasted ravioli product,” Gregory said. “Supplies are limited so we went out early to make sure we got it.”
It's a beautiful display of pride in St. Louis, a sports-obsessed city.
The Blues are playing a road game against the San Jose Sharks in hopes of making the playoffs.
