As more Americans plan to travel this year, Dulles International Airport and Reagan National Airport are preparing for a potentially very busy summer travel season.
According to a Deloitte study released this week, nearly six in 10 people plan to travel this summer, and 48% plan to pay for their accommodation.
High-income earners and baby boomers are the most likely to travel. Compared to last year, high-income earners accounted for 44% of travelers, rising to 35% in 2023.
Among baby boomers, 24% said they would take a big trip after Labor Day, up from 28% last year. One in five baby boomers surveyed said they would take a big trip after Labor Day.
A survey of 4,022 Americans conducted by Deloitte from March 20 to April 2 found that not only will the proportion of people flying domestically increase, but demand for nonstop international flights and fare upgrades will also increase. They say it will increase.
According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Airports Authority, passenger numbers at both Norfolk airports are expected to exceed last year's. Dulles is projecting a 5% increase in passenger numbers from May through August, while Reagan National is projecting a 1% to 3% increase. Last year, Dulles handled 9.5 million passengers and Washington DCA handled 9 million passengers during this period.
“The Airports Authority is working with government partners to provide technology-based security and passport processing improvements for customers using Washington's airports, especially international arrivals who must pass through U.S. Customs upon arrival at Dulles Airport. ” Jack Potter, Airport Authority President and CEO, said in a statement.
“More than 40 airlines fly to 190 destinations around the world from Dulles Airport, and as travel demand continues to increase around the world, we expect the airport to see record passenger numbers this summer. “We are,” Potter continued.
Airport authorities recommend international passengers download the mobile passport control app to minimize wait times at customs. This free app allows you to submit travel documents, photos, and customs declaration information. You can then join the dedicated passport control line at Dulles Airport.
