Argentine President Javier Milley accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Nicolas Posse on Monday night, in the first cabinet reshuffle in his five months in power, amid tensions over major economic reforms proposed by the government.
Posse will be replaced by current Interior Minister Guillermo Francos, according to a government statement.
The cabinet reshuffle comes at an especially delicate time for Milley, a far-right libertarian economist, as his signature reform bill faces new obstacles in parliament and market rallies for government bonds and the local currency appear to be stalling.
The statement added that the outgoing Prime Minister's next role within government will be announced in the coming days.
Posse was a key member of the team involved in debt negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), along with Economy Minister Luis Caputo.
Milley's economic reforms include a plan to privatize state-owned companies as well as other austerity measures aimed at reversing a long economic crisis marked by inflation rates of nearly 300 percent.
