Another star player for the Cincinnati Bengals reportedly wants to leave.
Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson has requested a trade from the Bengals. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. on wednesday.
Hendrickson is under contract for two more years with a base salary of $14.8 million in 2024 and $15.8 million in 2025, but neither year includes guaranteed money. According to Schefter's report, Hendrickson is “looking for more long-term security than Cincinnati was willing to offer.”
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Bengals have told them they won't be moving Hendrickson despite his trade request.
Hendrickson's trade request comes a month after star wideout Tee Higgins reportedly made the same request for a long-term contract. Schefter reported Wednesday that there had been no contract negotiations in more than a year between Higgins, who was placed on the franchise tag in February, and the Bengals.
Hendrickson is coming off a career year in which he recorded 17.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 25 quarterback hits, the second-most in the NFL.
In three seasons in Cincinnati, the former first-round pick totaled 39.5 sacks, 34 tackles for loss and 76 quarterback hits in 48 games. All three of his Pro Bowl nominations also came during this period.
