Video game writing has come a long way since the retro days. Gone are the days of “all your bases belong to us” and, especially in the last few years, we've seen the rise of games with strong stories and nuanced narratives. And now, the American Writers Museum in Chicago is showcasing a brand new exhibit on storytelling in games.

Open today, Level Up: Writers and Gamers This book explores the American relationship with games and how they influence the stories we tell. It features game writing from the 1970s to the present, with a focus on video games as well as tabletop role-playing games. Dungeons & Dragons.
The American Writers Museum said in a press release that the exhibit aims to highlight the importance of game scriptwriting and its impact on storytelling. Level Up: Writers and Gamers We also hope to encourage young people to try out new writing styles and deepen visitors’ understanding of writing through a fun, interactive format.
And of course, the Video Game Screenwriting exhibit showcases many of the story-rich games of the past 50 years, including: Zork, Baldur's Gate III, and Final Fantasy VII. The latter was recently re-envisioned with a story that we called “mind-blowing” in our review.
But the exhibit focuses on the people behind the beloved game titles, including Sierra co-founder and King's Questand founder of the R. Tarsorian Game. Cyberpunk 2077The exhibition also showcases other kinds of games writers, such as journalist and streamer Tanya DePass.
Admission to the American Writers Museum includes: Level Up: Writers and GamersAdmission is $16 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and teachers. Children under 12 are free. The museum is open Wednesday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
