Amazon has revealed that it will once again be getting into video game adaptations — or rather, gaming — with a new film scheduled for screening later this year.
Based on Sega's hit series “Ryu ga Gotoku,” the live-action film will be set in two time periods: 1995 and 2005..
The 2005 timeline is interesting, as this is the time period the first game was based on.
Here's the synopsis: “Ryu ga Gotoku: Like a Dragon is an original crime suspense action series that follows the life, childhood friends, and repercussions of the decisions of Kiryu Kazuma, a fearsome and unparalleled Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.”
Yakuza 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness is directed by Take Masaharu (Laputa: Castle in the Sky) and stars Takeuchi Ryoma as the protagonist, Kiryu Kazuma.
Speaking about the new show, Director Take Masaharu said: “I’ve poured my heart, soul and experience that I’ve cultivated over 35 years into Yakuza 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness.
“Thanks to the overwhelming passion and talent of all the staff, as well as countless efforts, this epic story has been born as a fascinating series in this Year of the Dragon. Please look forward to Kazuma Kiryu, played by Ryoma Takeuchi.”
Yakuza 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness follows the success of Fallout, an adaptation of the video game series of the same name, which was a huge success on Prime Video and has already announced a second series.
Prime Video is also producing a God of War TV show, and no doubt has plenty more in the works.
Like a Dragon 7: Where Light and Darkness Go It will be released on Prime Video on October 24th.
