The flight from Delhi to San Francisco was delayed by 30 hours, took off on Friday and arrived in San Francisco on Saturday after about 16 hours of flight.
The apology and gift of travel vouchers came after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday issued notices to airlines seeking explanation for excessive flight delays and mishandling of passengers.
“On behalf of Air India, I sincerely apologise for the long delay in your arrival to San Francisco. This was due to some technical delays and other operational constraints,” PTI reported, citing Klaus Gersh as saying.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers due to the deficiencies in our service,” Goash said in the May 31 letter.
As a token of its apology, the letter said Air India had offered the man “a travel voucher worth $350” for future travel on the airline.
The regulator had asked Air India why it had not taken enforcement action against the airline despite the inordinate delays of flight AL-179 on May 24 and flight AL-183 on May 30.
