Former Southampton defender Francis Benali discusses Sunday's Championship play-off final against Southampton. leeds Football Daily 72+ Podcast:
“If you look at the league positions, third versus fourth, there's no debate. It's a game to look forward to and we're very excited about.
“I think it will be a very tough game for Southampton because they have won both home and away games in the league, but I think games like this are completely one-offs.”
“There's probably a little bit of a psychological element to it having won those two games all season, but this is unique and we know the stakes are huge for both teams.
“It's going to be a match that everyone will want to sit down and watch. It's going to be a high-quality, exciting match. It could be a real classic.”
Leeds beat Norwich 4-0 at Elland Road to book their place in the play-off final, while Southampton beat West Brom at St Mary's.
Over the course of the season, the Saints scored more goals (81 to 87) but also conceded 20 more than their Wembley opponents (43 to 63).
“I think Leeds have a real menace about them, they are dangerous,” Benali said. “We saw what they did against Norwich, they can overpower teams.
“Saints will have to be at their best to beat them on Sunday.
“The mindset and ability of players and managers to deal with this situation will have a huge impact on the outcome.”
“I think Russell Martin has done a fantastic job, they have a real identity in the way they play and it's been great watching them. The bond he has with the supporters, players and staff is really good here on the south coast.”
“I hope he’s here for many years.”
