As anticipation builds for the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, the city of Paris prepares to host a world-class sporting event and embark on a journey of urban renewal. Breaking away from traditional stadium-centric events, Paris 2024 is taking a new approach to the Olympic experience. Sports architecture has the ability to go beyond functionality and become spaces of collective experience and shared joy. In that sense, we invite people from different backgrounds to build connections while celebrating athleticism. This month's curated collection focuses on different forms of sports architecture, stadiums, venues and landscaping projects, and analyzes how the components come together to form different sports architecture experiences.
For the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Foster + Partners designed the iconic and more traditional Lusail FIFA Stadium. In India, M:OFA Studios designed the National Institute of Water Sports, breaking away from the pragmatic norms of government agencies. At his 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the new cricket ground by AZUT was highlighted, appearing as an integration of sports infrastructure and natural landscape. Meanwhile, in Oder City, China, PLAT ASIA transformed an existing city square into a smart sports park to promote community health and interaction. Finally, Opsis Architecture's University of Idaho Arena serves as the primary gateway to the university campus and celebrates athleticism and community spirit.

Lusail (Qatar)
A detailed analysis of the brief and client requirements, as well as an understanding of Qatar's climate and cultural heritage, formed the basis of the design. Government agencies in India typically take a pragmatic and conservative approach to architectural representation. The Goa state government proposed an international level competition for the design of the National Water Sports Institute in Goa and wanted the institute to do two things. Firstly, to create a bold and iconic statement with an expression that takes architecture beyond functional utilitarianism, and secondly, to take a fresh approach to the typical Goan architectural environment and to The use of materials allows for a more global yet grounded language, resonating with local languages.

The Asian Games Cricket Ground at Pingfeng Campus of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology is located on a 49,400 square meter site to the west of the former athletics stadium.
