GTA 6's release date is reportedly set for early 2025, but unfortunately new reports suggest it could end up in late 2025, or even worse, beyond the 2026 mark. It is said that there is a sex.
As Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported in late February, Rockstar Games sent an email to all employees asking them to return to the office five days a week starting in April. GTA 6 is in its final stages of development, so it's an “all hands on deck” type of situation. Security is also a big reason, especially after his teens broke into Rockstar's servers in September 2022 in the largest hack in video game history.
Now, according to the latest reports, there seems to be another reason why all the telecommuting employees have been called back to the office full-time. Sources told Kotaku that production on GTA 6 may be further delayed than Rockstar had hoped, and that the studio is hoping to speed up the process by having everyone in the office. It seems that they think it is possible to maintain the release window of early 2025. If not, as time goes on, a late 2025 date becomes more and more realistic.
But the news is even more dire than this, with Kotaku also noting that production is well behind schedule and that a new release date of 2026 is starting to circulate within the company. Thankfully, Rockstar Games is still aiming for a Spring 2025 release, so you'll have to keep an eye out until then. Or maybe he can wind things up until the second trailer comes out, hopefully sometime in 2024.
With over 182 million views on YouTube, the first official Grand Theft Auto VI video is currently the second most viewed video game trailer. This surpassed the Minecraft trailer released in December 2011, which had 168 million views, and was only second to Subway Surfers, released in September 2012, which had 361.5 million views.
This shows how much of a social and cultural phenomenon Grand Theft Auto VI is. Its importance as an interactive storytelling medium should not be underestimated. Some modern philosophers say that its ability to penetrate society is “more than 9,000!!!”
Regardless of when it is released, GTA 6 will obliterate everything in its path and set new records not only in the video game market but also in the industry. It will shock the entire entertainment industry. GTA V has sold nearly 200 million copies and is currently the third best-selling PC and console video game of all time.
This is second only to Minecraft, which has sold more than 300 million copies, and Tetris, which has sold more than 520 million copies. And I'm not sure how well Tetris fits into this category. Because there are billions of variations and so on. That said, the fact remains that the GTA brand is unlike anything that has existed in the entertainment business before.
