2023 saw a number of high-profile video game releases and several GOTY contenders scattered throughout the month. GameSpot's sister site Metacritic has compiled the numbers to determine the best of the best in the industry. To do this, Metacritic is calculated by taking into account the average metascore of each publisher's games released in 2023, the percentage of products that achieved a “good” metascore of 75 or higher, and the percentage of products that achieved a “bad” metascore. A point system was used. Number of “great titles” with metascores below 49 and metascores above 90. Sales and user reviews are not factored into these rankings, as only Metacritic-approved critic reviews were used to evaluate each publisher's performance.
