BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University, an NCAA Division I public university located just east of Houston, recently completed extensive video enhancements to its football and basketball venues, adding a new video scoreboard to Provost Umphrey Stadium and Added new LED center hang to Neches Federal Credit Union. Arena at Montagne Center.
Anthony James Partners (AJP), owner's representative and technology consultant, provided comprehensive design, procurement, and construction management services and selected SNA Display for Lamar University to manufacture new video display technology at both venues. I supported you in doing so.
“Lamar University is implementing some very exciting developments to enhance the student and fan experience,” said AJ Faxel, AJP Executive Vice President of Business Development. “We have been honored to represent the Lamar Athletics team through this process, and we are pleased to see the stadium and arena enhancements bring even more excitement to the Cardinal fan base.”
The Cardinals' home, 16,000-seat Umphrey Stadium, now features a 2.3 million-pixel LED video scoreboard built with EMPIRE™ Exterior technology. At 73 feet, 6 inches wide and 34 feet tall, the new scoreboard is approximately twice the size of the stadium's previous board. The new structure, installed at the Dauphin Athletic Complex on the southeast end of the field, was installed by Bakers' Signs and features a 10mm pixel pitch.
“By eliminating the static elements from previous scoreboards and expanding the digital canvas with an even tighter pixel pitch, Lamar's new videoboard offers much greater visual capabilities,” said SNA Executive Vice President of Displays. said Jason Helton, President. “New design and technology choices by Lamar Athletics have clearly improved the game day experience.”
The new videoboard features an AJP-designed point-source audio system with long-throw speakers and amplifiers provided by Danley Sound Labs. The videoboard structure also includes interlocking “LU” channel letters facing the field and a 37-foot-wide illuminated logo on the rear.
Next to the football stadium is the Montagne Center, where a new Focal Point LED center hang has been installed. The display system consists of four slightly curved LED screens that are angled downwards to provide maximum line of sight to arena participants. Two of the display surfaces are 8'10″ x 17'9″ (675 x 1,352 pixels) and the other two are 8'10″ x 13'5″ (675 x 1,020 pixels).
“Versatility and video quality are key to improving the fan experience,” said Helton. “We are very excited to continue partnering with Lamar's athletics program to improve the quality and functionality of our display systems.”
The multipurpose facility seats just under 11,000 people and regularly hosts sporting events such as basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, and martial arts tournaments.
