WACO, Texas (KWTX) –
The last bell has rung, school is out, and summer vacation is upon us. You know what that means. That's right! Temperatures that rival the surface temperature of the sun, hurricanes, and wildfires. Why bother with that when you can take a virtual trip in one of the dozens of new video games coming out in June? Travel to a galaxy far, far away, dip your toes in the murky depths of the ocean, or hop on an old, grubby horse and head somewhere comfortable and familiar. Let me be your summer travel agent in these five destination vacation video games featured in the June issue of The Download.
1. Destiny 2: Final Form
Where do we start with Destiny 2's beautiful sci-fi hotspots? Drop into the Solar System. Meet the friendly locals and see the great White Aether. Enter the White Aether. Yes, since Destiny 2015, Guardians across the universe have been fighting growing, nebulous forces of darkness. We've won many battles. We've defeated Eldritch Gods. We've lost friends and made new ones. Against all odds… we've lost the Traveler. The greatest threat emerges in the form of the Witness and its Final Shape. This is the end of the story of light and dark. Join Zavala, Crow, and a resurrected Cayde-6 as they board the Traveler to find a way to stop the darkness from destroying everything, and maybe even gain the power of the Prism in the process. Battle new enemies, use powerful new abilities, and of course discover many new weapons to defeat your dark allies. Put an end to the fight as Destiny 2's “The Final Shape” arrives on June 4 for PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
2. Star Wars: The Hunter
Interested in giant glowing white spheres? How about cruising on a Hutt ship? Star Wars Hunters is the game for you! Join a group of Hunters and battle in small 4v4 arenas. From Jedi to bounty hunters, the roster is packed with famous aliens and everyone's favorite roles from a galaxy far, far away. Join the fight when the free-to-play Star Wars Hunters launches on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms on June 4.
3. And yet the abyss awakens
No laser gunfire or combat? Head off to somewhere nice and rainy offshore. Deep in the frozen North Sea, you play as an oil driller sent to work on an old oil rig off the coast of Scotland. You'll survive devastating storms and dangerous conditions, struggling to keep your crew together as the structure collapses around you. You must save your team against all odds and approaching otherworldly forces. Get ready for that beach getaway as Still Wakes the Deep launches on June 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
4. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Eld Tree:
A tarnished world rises once again. Elden Ring players can return to the Gothic Lands and go beyond the game's original “Land Between” to discover the vast world of “Land of Shadow”. Witness devastating flames, meet lovely locals, and explore all-new, stunning locations. Discover countless new weapons, gear, skills, and magic to deepen your RPG adventure. Players can seamlessly travel between robust maps dotted with diverse encounters and some dangerous dungeons. Unravel the intricate lore of these strange new lands as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree blazes forth on June 21st for Ps4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
5. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
If ancient wars and secrets aren't your thing, how about something a little more… scary? Return to Luigi's Haunted Mansion in Luigi's Mansion 2, a full HD remaster for Switch featuring updated controls, remastered sound, and a goofy aesthetic throughout the game. Join Luigi from the Mario Brothers on a ghost-busting adventure. Get spooked early with Luigi's Mansion 2 jump scares on Nintendo Switch on June 27.
