It's been a while since the last Star Wars video game was released, and fans have been eager to play something new.
After multiple delays, a new game set in a galaxy far, far away has been released and is available for players to join for free.
Star Wars: The Hunter It is scheduled to be released on June 4, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices.
The game is being developed by Zynga, the developer best known for its FarmVille game, in which players tend to cows and complete various farm tasks.
Zynga's first foray into the Star Wars universe is very different, with Hunters being a squad-based arena shooter.
Set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, you can choose from a diverse cast of Star Wars characters.
You then face off against other players in 4v4 battles across several game modes with different objectives.
At launch, Star Wars: Hunters will have four modes.
- Squad Brawl – Teams play until the 20th eliminated player
- Power Control – Your troops need to capture the most control points on the battlefield
- Dynamic Control – Teams attempt to capture dynamically changing control points
- Trophy Chase – Players must pick up and hold the Trophy Droid for their team
The game is free to play, but there are also paid Arena Passes and VIP Arena Passes available for additional rewards.
Hunters will launch with a lineup of 13 characters, all of which can be unlocked through natural progression, with the exception of Aran Tal the Mandalorian, who you'll get as a bonus if you purchase the Arena Pass.
As with all live-service multiplayer games, it will be continually updated with new characters, events, maps, and game modes.
Star Wars: Hunters is a competitive shooter, so there are both casual matches and a ranked mode that unlocks at level six.
The game is available to download completely free from the Nintendo eShop on Switch, the App Store on iPhone or iPad, or Google Play on Android devices.
