Anticipation for the release of EA Sports' College Football 2025 is growing by the day, with fans all over the world eagerly awaiting the June 19th release date.
We're getting quite a bit of press right now. What the game will look likeas well What it looks likeTo celebrate the return of the game Coloradoof Travis Hunter, Michiganof Donovan Edwards and Texas' Quinn Ewers As cover art.
But it begs the question…who could have appeared on the cover during a time when the game was out of production?
With a decade's worth of college football in between, there are plenty of great options for EA Sports' highly anticipated cover. Alabama Quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy Broke it.
“Obviously, there are a lot of great options,” McElroy said, “There's been a lot of great players over the last decade, but when I think about video games, I think about players I want to have in video games, and there are two that come to my mind.”
“To be first by a fairly large margin Lamar JacksonI always think, if I had Lamar Jackson and I could play an NCAA video game with him, if he could run around and extend the play, find an open guy downfield, and pop out and run when he needed to, he probably had 98 speed and could do incredible things to the defense. So if I say Lamar Jackson is one of those guys, I'll put him on the cover.”
Jackson was a member of college football's elite. Louisville From 2015-2017, he passed for 9,043 yards with 69 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, while also rushing for 4,132 yards and 50 scores.
This one doesn't really need much explanation. What about McElroy's No. 2?
“The other guy I would consider is Johnny Manziel“With Johnny Manuel, I remember all the crazy, chaotic plays he used to make. When you watch Johnny Manuel, it's like you're watching a video game, you know? It's just wild to see him just go out there and totally dominate? So he was in the mix,” McElroy said.
Like Manziel, Jackson was an elite dual-threat prospect in college and the type of player you'd be mesmerized to play in the EA Sports video game.
Manziel threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdown passes against 22 interceptions in just two years, and also ran for 2,169 yards and 30 scores.
That said, there have been plenty of quality players from the college football world over the past decade to grace the cover, including players who aren't quarterbacks, and McElroy listed a few others he would have liked to see.
“Deshaun Watson Will be in the mix Clemson“Obviously, he had great success in 2015-2016, won a national championship, and I've tried to think about it here the last couple years: You've got to give your defensemen some love, right? Defenders need some love, too. I Nick Bosa To a certain extent, that makes sense. Of course, he played really well in 2015, '16, and '17. So there were a lot of really good moments when he was under center.
“Justin Fields in Ohio State University It would have been so much fun to play an NCAA video game, there are probably a million that I'm forgetting. Bryce Young “It would have been great to play together at Alabama. He was a great player in college. So there's a lot of great players out there that would have been great to have the opportunity to play together.”
Either way, the hype will soon become reality once EA Sports College Football 2025 is released.
