Throughout history, some video game genres have not only been successful on consoles, but have also made major inroads onto the small and big screens, achieving yet another level of success. This is the case with two recent genres: Fallout and The Last of Us.
In this article, we have taken the time to look at these activities as well as their adaptation and whether it was able to meet our expectations.

Fallout's history begins in the year 2077, when the United States, China, and other countries launched a nuclear war that lasted just over two hours, resulting in, you guessed it, the near-extinction of all life on Earth.
However, all was not lost. Several shelters were built to house the last survivors of humanity, and they thrived, with enough resources to eventually resettle the burned Earth. However, not all living things were killed in this nuclear war. Some humans, animals, and plants were mutated beyond recognition, while others gave rise to factions such as ghouls, slugs, and swampfolk.
The main plot of the film is basically about surviving and thriving while fighting other forces. The video game history ended in 2287 (until now), but the TV series continued.
Fallout TV Series: Aftermath of the Great War
The series, currently available to stream on Amazon Prime, follows the history of the survivors of one of the bunkers (or what's left of it) discovered in Boston nine years after the events of the video (2296).
Here you can see re-enactments of the mutants mentioned above as well as see what life was like in these bunkers. Unfortunately, this hugely popular series only has one season of eight episodes, with a second season scheduled for release in 2026.
The Last of Us
The history of this game is set in a post-apocalyptic world, just like Fallout, but this time the cause of the situation was a parasitic infection called Cordyceps, which made infected individuals extremely hostile, making the virus spread even easier. Have you heard of a zombie apocalypse?
The story begins with a man named Joel trying to escape from a city filled with infected people with his daughter Sarah, but during the escape Sarah is killed by a military guard trying to prevent the spread of the disease.
Twenty years have passed since the incident, and about 60% of humanity has died or been infected. In order to contain the situation, multiple control points have been set up and martial law has been declared.
At this point, we're following the story of Ellie, a 13-year-old girl who is orphaned at a military camp. The problem is, she's quite the rebel, runs away from the camp, lives a hard life, and meets Joel, who has become an arms dealer by this point, after a long history.
Many mysteries will be revealed as the game progresses, which I don't want to give away in this article for the sake of spoilers, but one thing is for sure: you'll be on the edge of your seat when you see how amazing this video game is. Currently, the series has nine episodes and one season, but a second season is currently in the works and I can't wait to see where this adventure takes us all.
Conclusion: what's next?
As mentioned above, both Fallout and The Last of Us are getting TV series that will be available on Amazon Prime and HBO Max, respectively. While a second season of the first is currently “up in the air,” the latter is currently in production, so we'll likely get to see more of this incredible tale of survival.
