Ascension Healthcare and Ascension Sacred Heart have restored much of their patient records technology following the cyberattack in May.
An Ascension spokesman said Tuesday:
“Ascension Sacred Heart has restored the primary technology used for electronic patient records at our practice, allowing most hospital departments, practices and clinics to use electronic records, charting and ordering systems. Patients should see improvements in efficiency and wait times. Our team is working tirelessly to restore other ancillary technology systems.”
In the days following the attack, Ascension reported that its electronic medical records system, MyChart (which allows patients to view their medical records and communicate with their health care providers), some of its phone systems, and various systems it uses to order certain tests, procedures and medications were unavailable.
Early in the incursion, Ascension Hospital diverted ambulances and patients to other hospitals.
The hospital system engaged a third-party expert, Mandiant, to assist with the investigation and remediation process and notified the appropriate authorities. They were working to thoroughly review any information that may have been affected by this situation. They planned to notify and support those individuals in accordance with all relevant regulatory and legal guidelines.
