Rockstar's owner Take-Two has spoken out about its decision not to announce Grand Theft Auto 6 for PC.
The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released in December, confirming a 2025 release date for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
During an interview at the TD Cowen conference this week, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked if the lack of a PC announcement was a sure thing, or if the game could be announced for the platform at a later date.
“Well, no announcement is not something that can be confirmed as far as I know. I think the only thing that will happen after a no announcement is an announcement, and I think it could be that there will be a period of no announcements. I don't think either is confirmed,” he said (transcript via VGC).
“But Rockstar has always approached platforms, and there will be further announcements to come. I believe the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and what we've done historically is to meet consumers where they are, over time, on every platform that makes sense.”
Rockstar has a history of releasing games for consoles first and then PC later on, including Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, LA Noire, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
The original Red Dead Redemption has yet to be released for PC, but perhaps with good reason: fans still haven't given up on a port to the platform, even 14 years after the original's release.
Take-Two updated its financial guidance this month, shortening the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 from 2025 to next fall.
The company also said that Grand Theft Auto 5, which “reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any entertainment title in history,” has shipped approximately 200 million copies since its release in 2013.
