BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Kids in Baton Rouge can now sign up for a video game design and esports summer camp.
The camp, hosted by Southern University Law Center's Mixed Reality Virtual Innovation Gaming & Esports Institute, will take place June 17-28 in the Student Union on campus. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The opportunity for under-represented youth to participate in this unique program is truly invaluable, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where creativity and skills development go hand in hand,” said Christopher Turner, MRVIGES Institute Director. “We are enthusiastic about the upcoming camp and the enriching experience it will provide for all participants.”
According to event organizers, kids will learn about game design, branding, team building, positioning and more while demonstrating their strategies and building their skill sets using popular video games like Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League. Tournaments will also be held at the camp.
Camp is open to children ages 8-13. Registration starts at $450 and includes a camp shirt and snacks. Before and after camp care is available for an additional fee. The deadline to register is Wednesday, June 12.
