YouTube may have launched an investigation into reports that its employees are behind a host of misconduct, insiders said. Video Game Leaks In recent years, there have been an increasing number of accurate leaks coming from random social media accounts and forum posters, and fans have long suspected that some of them may be YouTube employees or people connected to them.
Why YouTube employees are suspected to be behind the video game leak
Many “insiders” tend to share information about games before the trailer is released. One of the most infamous recent leaks was the GTA 6 trailer, which forced Rockstar to release the video earlier than planned. The pattern of leaks has led many to suspect that the information is being leaked by YouTube employees with access to their back-end systems.
Known insider Tom Henderson said YouTube has conducted at least two investigations in the past 18 months, with a third expected soon, especially following yesterday's pre-release leak of State of Play. Perhaps a YouTube employee had access to a trailer that Sony was planning to release during the event.
I won't name names here, but I suspect that if YouTube is successful in cracking down, it could put quite a few well-known leakers out of business.
