First released Ultimate Games fishing simulatorhas been ported pocket fishing On the switch. With 65 types of fish to catch and numerous abilities to upgrade, this fishing simulator features many RPG mechanics and sounds great on paper, but has some major flaws when played on console.
What should have been a relaxing and calming digital fishing experience turns out to be an unfortunate lesson in frustration. From the root, pocket fishing It is designed around a keyboard and mouse interface. This switch port reuses this mouse-based interface and maps the pointer to the right stick. The pointer itself is also small and difficult to represent when viewed on a connected TV screen.
Catching fish is so unintuitive that the game is borderline unplayable. First, instead of implementing the typical first-person controls, i.e. change perspective in RS and movement is mapped to LS, movement is still performed in LS, but for some reason camera movement does not work with the d-pad will be assigned to. That is, each part of the movement is associated with his one thumb, so he cannot do both at the same time.
RT casts line but hooking fish is broken at best. When the fish start eating, the player must move his small mouse cursor over the button on the right side of the screen, hold the A button and push up on the right stick. To perform these finger gymnastics, move your left thumb to the right stick, then move your right thumb to the right stick, assuming you've had enough time to move the cursor to sweet his spot on the screen. You need to hold down his A using the . This has one of the least intuitive control schemes I've ever seen in a game, and it doesn't make the game fun to play.
This is a shame because there is solid foundation here. There are daily and weekly challenges. You can catch different types of fish. Unlock many tackle box items. Ability to upgrade. level to obtain. There's a lot here. So it sucks that you have to have the patience of a saint to see it.
The presentation value is also very low. In fact, without exaggeration, PSOne games have higher resolution textures than some of the background assets we have here. There's no music either. However, you can hear the chirping of birds around you as the loop resumes awkwardly.
Unfortunately, this is another low-quality game by Ultimate Games. If the control scheme had been updated to actually support a controller interface, it might give you a few hours of fun. Instead, you'll want to throw it back into the ocean sooner than catch it.

The console fishing sim didn't adopt the controls of the PC version, resulting in a frustratingly broken gameplay experience.
