The Australian government said on Thursday its Cyber Security Agency was “in negotiations” with US-based Ticketmaster Group after a group of hackers claimed to have accessed the personal information of 560 million customers.
“The National Cyber Security Agency is working with Ticketmaster to clarify the incident,” a government spokesman said in a statement.
A well-known group of hackers calling themselves ShinyHunters claimed to have stolen the personal information of 560 million customers, and posted evidence of the hack on the dark web, according to screenshots that were widely shared on social media.
According to the post, the group demanded a ransom of $500,000 for what they called a “one-time sale.”
California-based Ticketmaster operates one of the world's largest online ticket sales platforms.

The Department of Justice filed a major antitrust lawsuit last week, seeking to break up the monopoly that Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and its subsidiary Ticketmaster Inc. allegedly hold in the live music industry.
Ticketmaster's pricing has long been a political issue in the U.S. because of its high fees and lack of alternatives, but little has been done to open up the market and promote competition.
