In reality, the two are so different that it's hard not to compare them. No Man's Sky And Starfield. Both are ambitious space games. Both came out with a lot of hype. And both underwhelmed, at least at launch. Starfield Shattered Space could have been the start of a resurgence in Bethesda's RPGs. But eight years after its release, Hello Games' NMS is in the tail end of a recovery, earning its place in the annals of video game comeback stories alongside Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout 76. But the new No Man's Sky update envisions something entirely different. No extra quests. No extra materials. Nothing.
No Man's Sky's new update is an ambitious and daring reimagining of the space game based on one idea: what would happen if the entire universe was completely empty? Inspired by the pre-launch version of NMS, Hello Games will release Adrift as a kind of parallel dimension, where players can explore the game's underground worlds, multiple galaxies, and infinite planets without ever encountering any other lifeforms. If you've ever looked up at the night sky and felt pure existential dread at the possibility that, even across the infinite expanse of all existence, we are completely powerless and alone, then No Man's Sky Adrift is for you.
There are no shops, no trades, no shortcuts, no help. You are alone, making No Man's Sky the ultimate survival game experience. But some terrible dangers remain. Giant sandworms roam freely across the various terrains, and demon eggs are spreading at an alarming rate. Everything else is abandoned, rusted and ghostly. It's lonely, but it also offers another perspective. This is No Man's Sky in its most tranquil and contemplative form, the game as it was at the very beginning, before any updates, overhauls or add-ons. This is the confluence of gases before the big bang of No Man's Sky's universe.
A new Howler starship, named the Iron Vulture, will aid players in their survival, as well as a massive new frigate where they can heal and resupply before venturing into the Abysmal Void once again. No Man's Sky Adrift release date has yet to be announced, but Hello Games has promised to provide more information on the update in the near future.
