Summary of high school sports on May 28th
The season's biggest home run gave Boston an 8-3 victory. The teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow night. On the high school softball diamond, defending Class 'C' champion Hall Dale hosted Monmouth Academy. Jade Graham singled to left field, driving in Zoe Soule and Hall Dale leading 2-0 after three innings. The game was decided in the fourth inning, when Graham smashed a double over the center field fence, driving in Marie Benoit. Then, on the next pitch, Lucky Gray tripled to right field, driving in Graham and Hall Dale winning 10-0. The same schools met on the baseball diamond. Monmouth extended its lead in the fourth inning. Brandon Smith scored on a grounder by Jake Harmon and the Mustangs led 6-0. A few batters later, Sammy Calder singled to left, sending Lucas Harmon home. Calder had four hits and was also the pitcher responsible for Monmouth Academy's 13-3 victory. Down the road in Augusta, Connie hosted rival Gardiner. Connie led 4-0 in the top of the fifth, but the Tigers rallied for three runs. Chase Burgess singled to right, sending Zach Reed home. The Rams then rallied with a big hit in the bottom of the inning. Anderson Noyes singled shallow to center field to put them ahead by one run. Parker Morin followed with another run. Connie scored nine runs in the inning to win the game, 13-3. The softball teams then faced off. Connie rallied in the first inning to take the lead. (Keirin) Kaelin Lebel singled to left field to drive in Abby Brown and give the Rams a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but Tigers pitcher Laney Cooley kept her cool the rest of the game.
