The Seattle Public Library was dealing with what it called a “ransomware incident” on Tuesday that affected the library's technology systems and caused disruptions to many of the online services the library offers.
In a Shelf Talk blog post, the library detailed the cybersecurity attack, which began early Saturday morning as the library was preparing to take its systems offline for planned maintenance over the holiday weekend.
The attack affected staff and public computers, the online catalogue and lending system, e-books and e-audiobooks, in-house Wi-Fi and access to the library's website, which was still offline Tuesday morning.
