CARLSBAD, Calif. — Georgia Tech men's golf players bring home a national championship to Atlanta.
Sophomore Hiroshi Tai won the boys' individual championship on Monday in California. Tai shot a three-under par 285 over four rounds to win the tournament, beating out six other golfers who finished two under par.

“(Winning the title) means a lot to me,” Tye said. “Everyone on my team has really helped me these last two and a half years, not just the six guys here but everyone back home. They've been some of the best friends I've had in my life and I'm really grateful for the relationships I've been able to build thanks to my coaches. [Bruce Heppler] And he brought me here.”

Tye becomes the only individual men's golf champion in program history, joining Watts Gunn (1927), Charlie Yates (1934) and Troy Mattson (2002).
Tai's individual victory earned the Yellow Jackets a spot in the team competition for the second consecutive year. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Tuesday, with the winners advancing to the final round on Wednesday.
What's next for Ty after his victory? The win gives him a spot in next month's U.S. Open at Pinehurst, as well as an invitation to the Masters in 2025.
