The long-awaited return of EA Sports' hit college football game, College Football 25, is fast approaching, and it's an exciting time for anyone old enough to remember just how great the game was.
The first EA Sports college game was released in 1993, and the last version was released in 2014. The game was shut down due to a dispute between the athletes and the NCAA, so the game did not display the players' names, only their individual portraits. Of course, if you are an avid player, you can also type in the name of your favorite player.
The best part about the EA series is that if you're a Virginia Tech fan, the Hokies have a fantastic team to play as, including Michael Vick, Cornell Brown, Andre Davis, Lee Suggs, Kevin Jones, David Wilson, Corey Moore, DeAngelo Hall, Ryan Williams, Logan Thomas, and countless others.
The Hokies haven't been the same team since the last version of the game, but expectations are high for 2024 under coach Brent Pry, giving Virginia Tech another reason to want to buy it.
EA Sports recently released their FBS tier rankings. There are four tiers, and the tier assigned is determined by where each team placed in the final AP Poll rankings over the past decade. The Hokies are ranked in tier 2 for video game royalties, earning $59,925.09.
The four tiers are:
- Tier 1: $99,875.16
- Tier 2: $59,925.09
- Tier 3: $39,950.06
- Tier 4: $9,987.52
If you're curious, Clemson was the only ACC program in Tier 1, with the Hokies, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Miami, Louisville and Stanford in Tier 2.
The game is scheduled to release on July 19th for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
