Mackinac Island — Named No. 1 by USA Today “Best summer destination” It was the only Mackinac Island to make the top 10 in the paper's annual reader poll.
This is the second year in a row that Michigan has received national recognition from USA Today.
“Receiving this top honor for the second year in a row shows how special Mackinac Island is to so many people.” Mackinac Island Mayor Margaret Dowd said. “We would like to thank our island community for their unwavering commitment to providing unforgettable experiences for our guests, and we would like to express our gratitude to all those near and far who voted for Mackinac Island.” think.”
USA Today describes the island as a place people visit. “You'll take a horse-drawn carriage ride along traffic-free roads, see (and sample) fudge being made, and tour historic Fort Mackinac.”
As many Michiganders already know, the island is home to Mackinac Island State Park, where visitors can often be seen hiking, biking, kayaking, and sightseeing. USA Today particularly highlights the beauty of His Rock, the limestone arches that attract tourists.

Mackinac Island was also named the #1 Best Island in the Continental U.S. by readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine in 2022. Other awards given to Mackinac Island include those by Conde Nast Traveler, TripAdvisor and Expedia.
